    1. I know this is an old post but I would like to encourage all that are in the same boat not (yet) able to read graphs.
I was there once too and I used to avoid them like the plague.
If I can read them now-ANYONE can!
(When) you do it will open a whole new world for you. Literally.
You will no longer be constrained to written patterns that are in your native dialect.
Start by following along with someone on you follow on YouTube. Mikey, from Crochet Crowd is amazing at teaching his Subs how to read graphs.
I wish you luck and encourage you once again by saying,
If I can now read crochet diagrams ANYONE CAN.
I’m now teaching myself to read knitting charts!
Much love brothers and sisters in crochet!!

  26. Hello, is there a pattern?

    ReplyDelete
  27. First of all, you should decide on the length of the dress. Typically, you will get summer-dresses in various lengths. You can choose from above-the-knee-length, knee-length, mid-calf-length, or ankle-length. stoner emojis

  28. Did anyone get a "written" pattern?. If so please could I have a copy. Charts are double Dutch to me. Or something similar. Thanks

  31. 2700 meters #10 crochet thread, 1.65mm hook, 106cm waist, 15 shells long skirt, pattern easy to follow just make the top however makes sense to you, it's stretchy and will work out if you try on as you go, don't get over stressed about it, it's very forgiving. If you can't figure it out substitute in a different free top pattern that's easier for you. It's very much worth learning to read charts if you can, it is much easier than you'd think. You can always add more trim or finishing rounds to the top if you need more coverage too.

  32. And thank you to the designer and owner of the website, a lovely gift to us all to have this pattern available, especially in pandemic times, thank you!!

  33. Written pattern for the top half. If you can't read the chart for the bottom half, try finding a free circular shawl pattern and adapt that. You'd need to change the math for the waistband if you do so. I'd transcribe the skirt pattern but it is a LOT of typing and the pic enlarges just fine. The one slightly weird symbol is a 3 dc puff stitch. Good luck!

Waistband - all sc, however wide and long as you’d like. If you want the criss cross effect you can sew chain onto it or learn terrace stitch. Make this first, or as you see in one of the pics skip it and just do a ch to start with. You are going to want to do some math with the pattern repeats for the top and the pattern repeats for the skirt to make sure they both match up. For example the top pattern repeat is 9 st, the skirt is 17 st, so the waistband ideally has to be divisible by both 9 and 17. More or less. There is wiggle room, you can mess with a few extra st, it will look fine. Use your gauge to figure out how long it needs to be and find the best closest st count. 153 stitches works really nicely but may be too small or large for you. Like, 170/17 is fine, but 170/9 = 18.89. Might be close enough though, if you scatter the extra stitches here and there. I had some extra stitches in my waistband at the middle back and it’s not noticeable. I didn’t do the math to begin with, oops!

Top: pattern is as follows, but the shape is up to you.

    Ch 3
    *Sk 2
    Dc 1
    Ch 2
Puff stitch with 2 dc into 1 st
    Ch 2
    Dc 1
    Sk 2
    Dc
    Dc*
    Repeat * to *.

Personally I could have just done a vertical opening for the top but the written pattern is raked back, reducing a little bit every row. You can wing this, it’s a bit different in the chart for each row.

After 8 rows or however long it takes to reach your armpit, start tapering it in toward the center at the armpits too, to make an armhole. About 10 rows up your top should be the width of the straps, about 2 shells/motifs/whatevers wide.

The back is similar except there’s no split in the middle and it goes up much higher, say 16 rows then sl st across the middle top to make a neckline and taper a little the next couple of rows to make it as wide at the top of the straps as the front.

Sew the front straps to the back straps.

    Trim:
    Sc 3 rows
ch 2 Sk 2 dc ch 4 sk 4 dc or something like that all the way around.
Make a cord of ch and then sl st the whole length or I-cord if knitting or use ribbon or similar.

  34. The above was only the setup row (row 1) for the top. It only happens once. The second and third rows repeat for the rest of the top and are as follows:

    Row 2
    Ch 3
    *Dc 4 into ch sp
    Ch 3
    Dc 4 into ch sp
    Ch 1*
Repeat until last 4 dc’s are in the ch sp, dc into top of ch3 from prev row

    Row 3
    Ch 3
    *Dc into ch sp
    Ch 2
2 dc puff st into same ch sp
    Ch 2
    Dc into same ch sp
2 dc into next ch sp (the ch 1 from prev row)
    *
Repeat from * to * til end
Dc into ch 3 from prev row.

  35. It's trellis stitch for the criss cross waistband, not terrace, oops again! You'd have to do the math with that one too to make it match up with the rest of the pattern. I think it would be easier to tack on ch.

  36. Neckline and armpit trim - do a consistent number of sc per row/pattern repeat, so the dc gap row is symmetrical for the cord. 8 per row is good. The dc gap row is dc, ch 1, sk 1, dc, ch 3, sk 3 and repeat. After this row do 2 rows of sc, with 2 sc in each 1 ch sp and 5 sc in each 3 ch sp.

  37. Any clue on how to do the arms and back

    ReplyDelete
  38. Re April 20th - Just taper it like in the diagram of the neckline. You can look at the pics of the finished dresses to see. It's not hard, just wing it. Where you place them/start tapering is up to your gauge, your body, where you want the waistband to sit, so just hold it up to yourself as you go along and see. You can also just copy exactly what they did in the finished pictures but it's better to tweak to yourself.

  39. I would recommend not doing a center back seam for the top if possible, mine is visible and not exactly straight. Start and turn at center front.

  40. I would love a written pattern

  41. Can someone please change the hyrogliphs to a written pattern. Or better yet a step by step video?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Cathy - just pay someone to transcribe the pattern for you. I'm sure you could get someone to do it for less than the cost of the thread. This pattern is free, the poster is very gracious to gift it to us and it's not reasonable to expect someone to do that much work for you when it's so easy to learn how to read charts. Plus if she makes a written pattern she should start charging, which is totally understandable but I'm glad she hasn't!
